The Navarre Bible - Wisdom

CODE: T2061

Price : $44.95

This volume, which follows the pattern of the highly successful Navarre Bible New Testament, consists of the Revised Standard Version and the New Vulgate with a Commentary by members of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Navarre, Spain. One of the most striking aspects of both these books is the use of poetry. Although poetic language is to be found in many Old Testament books, it is the predominant form in these ones. The book of Psalms and the Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon) contain lyric poetry, whereas the other books consist mainly of proverbs or aphorisms in verse form, and wisdom poems in varying lengths. This is primarily why the Psalms and the Song are described as poetical books, and the others as wisdom books. This volume also contains notes, introductions, and Latin. The editors' notes, which are rarely very technical, are designed to elucidate the spiritual and theological message of the Bible. Contents Preface and Preliminary Notes List of Abbreviations General Introduction to the Poetical and Wisdom Books of the Old Testament General features The role of poetry in Old Testament Revelation The development of the Wisdom tradition Preparation for the New Testament JOB Introduction Structure and Summary Composition Message The Book of Job in the Light of the New Testament Text and commentary PROVERBS Introduction Structure and Content Historical and Literary Context Composition Message Proverbs in the Light of the New Testament Text and commentary ECCLESIASTES Introduction Structure and Content Historical and Literary Context Message Ecclesiastes in the Light of the New Testament Text and commentary WISDOM Introduction Structure and Summary Historical and Theological Context Composition Message The Book of Wisdom in the Light of the New Testament Text and commentary SIRACH Introduction Structure and Content Historical and Literary Context History of the Text Message Sirach in the Light of the New Testament and its reception in Text and commentary Additional material: Explanatory Notes in the RSVCE; Sources quoted in the Commentary; Headings added to the Biblical Text
